Rescue

Rescue 9 The Club was founded in 1973 by a small group of enthusiasts who recognised that safety should become increasingly important in motor sport and also that there needed to be a means by which marshals and motor sport enthusiasts could be advised of events in Scotland. This notification process remains a central aim of the Club, however, as the sport developed and safety standards began to be recognised nationally, a need for providing specialised rescue cover was identified.

This started in a form that is remembered fondly by some, with a van carrying the most basic items of equipment for dealing with incidents. This changed quite rapidly as the concept became more widely accepted. Now, many years later, the Club offers this specialist Rescue service by way of a fleet of three Race and Rally Rescue Units, licensed by the Motor Sports Association and based in the Edinburgh area. We purchase and use Renault vehicles, which are customised to carry all of the necessary equipment specified by the MSA for medical and extrication purposes.

In terms of geography, the venues attended throughout the UK are widespread, from the former hill climb venue at Rumster near Wick in the north of Scotland, to the hill climbs at Craigantlet outside Belfast and Bouley Bay and Le Val des Terres in the Channel Islands. Events cover all types of four-wheeled sport including race, rally, rallycross, speed events and other meetings such as the Hot Hatch Days that are run throughout the year at Knockhill.

The Rescue Units are operated by a small team of volunteer crew members who hold Race and Rally Rescue licences from the MSA. Training is a fundamental and on-going aspect of this duty and before the start of every season, medical and eqipment training sessions take place, with a full re-licensing assessment organised by the MSA every three years. Please click on to the Training section of this site for information on this and other aspects of training, shown also on our Calendar page.
